Week One: CHECK

Friends & Family,

This week was amazing! God is already starting to do some amazing things here at YWAM Las Vegas! Our speaker was Greg Griffin and he talked about Hearing God's Voice and did an icredible job.

    What our schedule looks like:

  • Breakfast @ 7am
  • Group Bible Reading @ 7:20am
  • Lecture @ 8am-12pm
  • Lunch @ 12pm
  • Lecture @ 1pm
  • Free time @ 3pm
  • Dinner @ 5pm
  • Free time/outreach
We also have books to read/reports to write, so we usually do that during our free time or we call our parents to give them an update.

On Friday we got to go see the famous Las Vegas sign, eat at In-N-Out, and Go to Red Rock to do some rock climbing (most terrifying, yet adrenaline pumping experience of my life). Then on Saturday we walked to the old strip on Fremont Street (longest walk ever) and there was a culture fest going on. There was food, music, and some cute shops to go into.

I'm extrememly excited for this weeks speaker. All of the staff say that he is outstanding and that he completely wrecks every single student (I'm not sure if thats a good thing or not yet lol).

Things you can pray for me about are:

  • My passport comes in soon
  • That even though I miss my family, it won't overtake what great things are going on here.
  • Protection (we live in one of the most crime filled neighborhoods in Vegas)

"If God BROUGHT you to it, He can bring you THROUGH it."

 Friends & Family,

I have safely arrived in Las Vegas!

The goodbyes were the worst part (my brother even cried lol), but I am now doing...  okay...  kinda sorta...  I can already tell this is going to be a journey that will really stretch me out of my comfort zone and make me turn to God in my times of loneliness, where back home when you have family surrounding you, you tend to forget who is with you 24/7 no matter what.  It's so very exciting and yet so very scary at the same time.  I wish I could describe the actual feeling of being by yourself but also having the one person that you need most right beside you.

There's a sign outside my room that says, "If God brought you to it, He can bring you through it!" and I can't help but think how true that is. God brought me here for a reason and even though it is going to be extremely hard, I have faith that He will bring me through it safely.

So far three of my roommates have arrived and I have got to spend some time getting to know each of them. We are still expecting to have two more come in tonight. That's SIX girls in ONE room... everyone pray that each one of us is blessed with patience!:)  There is a total of 22 girls and 2 boys (those poor boys)...

This is my room (my bed is the one with the chevron bedspread)

I still don't know where my main outreach will be, but there is talk that it might be somewhere in Asia. On week 7 the abolitionist DTS and my DTS  get to go to Mexico for a week (pray my passport comes in time) and on week 9 just my orphancare DTS is going to Arizona for four days!! So many exciting things to come!

Ps. Thank you all for praying for safe travels!

YWAM- DTS Las Vegas

Friends & Family,
The count down is on! Only 7 days until I take off for the vibrant city of Las Vegas, Nevada! I can't believe it's already almost here. A lot of you have asked me several questions and I thought this would be the best way to answer the top 10 most frequently asked ones:

1. Where will you be going overseas?
    - I do not know yet and probaly won't know for another month or so. I do know that we will be staying at/near an orphanage and will be interacting with the kids there everyday and helping out whereever else we are needed.

2. What is it like where you are staying in Vegas?
    - I do not know. I have been told that it is sort of dorm style (your guess is as good as mine on what that means).

3. How long will you be in Vegas?
    - 12 weeks

4. How long will you be overseas?
    - 8 weeks

5. Are you nervous?
    - YES! The thing I'm most nervous about is the unknown. Those of you that know me well know that I like to plan things out and know exactly how things are going to happen. So, this is a big step for me and a big leap of faith!

6. Are you excited?
    - YES! I know this is a once in a lifetime experience and don't want to take any moment for granted!

7. What makes you the most apprehensive about doing this?
    - Leaving my family. I'll be missing Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and many Birthdays.

8. Why did you decide to go to YWAM instead of going to school?
    - When my parents told me that it was a possiblilty that we would be moving to Oregon it was in the middle of me deciding where I wanted to go to school. Now, I had to decide if I wanted to move with them or stay in Mo and go to school close to family. After praying about both options, neither of them felt right. I talked to my youth pastor and he mentioned YWAM because that's what he did out of High School. I looked into it and started praying that God would lead me to do what he wanted me to. After praying over it for awhile I knew this is what God was wanting me to do.

9. Do you know anyone else who is in your DTS?
    - No, I dont know anyone that will be in my group.

10. Are you 100% positive this is the right thing to do?
    - No I'm not, but is anyone ever POSITIVE about anything they do? I don't think so. At least I've never been 100%  positive about anything in my life (maybe I'm weird though).

So, there you have it. If you have any other questions for me throughout this whole thing you can always leave a comment on here and I would be happy to answer any of them. Also, if you could please pray for strength, safety and wisdom throughout this journey, I could really use the extra prayers!

PS. I have now raised enough money for the first part of my DTS, but am still working on getting enough funds for the Outreach Phase. As always your support would be greatly appreciated in helping me be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ. If you would like to support me you can go to GoFundMe.com/taj8tg8.
